The Rwanda Football Federation (FERWAFA), in collaboration with FIFA through its FIFA Forward Programme, has embarked on an ambitious nationwide infrastructure project to develop four state-of-the-art artificial football pitches. The project, implemented jointly with respective districts, marks a significant milestone in the country’s continued investment in modern sporting facilities and grassroots football development.
According to officials, the initiative aims to expand access to high-quality training surfaces while elevating the overall standard of football across Rwanda. Each of the four pitches will be built to international specifications, equipped with durable synthetic turf, proper drainage systems, and essential support amenities necessary for hosting both training sessions and competitive matches.
The project is expected to benefit local clubs, youth academies, schools, and community teams, offering them reliable playing fields throughout the year. This aligns with FERWAFA’s long-term strategy to strengthen talent development pathways and ensure that young players grow in environments that nurture technical excellence.
Through the FIFA Forward Programme, Rwanda continues to tap into global resources dedicated to football development. FIFA’s investment, coupled with support from district authorities, demonstrates a shared commitment to advancing the sport at grassroots and elite levels. Beyond improving infrastructure, the pitches are expected to stimulate local economic activity by creating jobs during construction and supporting sports-related services afterward.
FERWAFA emphasised that the new facilities will contribute to decentralizing football opportunities, addressing the shortage of quality pitches outside major urban centers. Once completed, these modern grounds will serve as hubs for community engagement, youth empowerment, and talent discovery.
