“Al-Merreikh Secures Its First Victory”

Kigali Pelé Stadium — Al-Merreikh SC made a memorable entrance into the Rwanda Premier League, defeating Kiyovu SC 2–0 in a historic and high-intensity match played on Sunday. The Sudanese giants, featuring in their first-ever league match on Rwandan soil, delivered a composed and tactical performance that stunned the home side.

The first half ended goalless, with both teams pushing aggressively for the opener. Kiyovu SC, playing their Matchday 9 fixture after a recent 1–0 loss to Gasogi United, attempted to dominate possession and create chances through midfield combinations and wing play. Al-Merreikh responded with pace and sharp counter-attacks, showing no signs of inexperience despite their debut.

The breakthrough finally came in the second half when Al-Merreikh’s forward Dauda Bah (jersey number 34) fired a thunderous long-range strike. His heavy, powerful shot left Kiyovu goalkeeper James Bienvenue Desile with no chance, giving the visitors a 1–0 lead and recording their first-ever goal in the Rwanda Premier League.

As Kiyovu pushed for an equalizer, Al-Merreikh struck again late in the match. Mohammed Teya (jersey number 32) doubled the lead in the 86th minute, finishing calmly inside the box to seal a dominant 2–0 victory. The goal extinguished Kiyovu’s hopes of a comeback and cemented an impressive debut performance for the Sudanese side.

With this win, Al-Merreikh begins its Rwandan campaign in style, while Kiyovu SC faces renewed pressure to recover after back-to-back defeats. The match showcased intensity, tactical discipline, and a statement of intent from Al-Merreikh as they officially enter the RPL race.
