Gasogi United claimed an important 1–0 victory over Kiyovu Sports in Matchday 8 of the Rwanda Premier League, a result secured by a decisive goal from Kazibwe Faizo in the 45+4th minute. The match, played with high intensity and strong tactical discipline from both sides, showcased Gasogi’s growing confidence and Kiyovu’s continued struggle for consistency.
The encounter began with both teams pushing for midfield dominance, Gasogi showing more fluidity in transitions while Kiyovu relied on quick counters and long balls to reach the final third. As the first half approached stoppage time, Gasogi increased their attacking pressure, and their persistence paid off when Kazibwe Faizo finished a well-worked move to give his side the lead heading into the break.
In the second half, Kiyovu Sports came out aggressively, seeking an equalizer through wing play and sustained possession in the attacking zone. However, Gasogi remained composed, defending with structure and minimizing errors. Their backline performed with discipline, supported by a midfield committed to breaking Kiyovu’s rhythm. Despite several attempts from the Greens, Gasogi preserved their slim advantage until the final whistle.
After the match, Gasogi head coach Dusange Sasha addressed pre-game comments made by club president KNC, which some believed might have put additional pressure on the young players. Sasha, however, downplayed the concerns, emphasizing that pressure is a normal part of football.
“Our players are young, and football always comes with pressure,” he said. “The pressure to win helps them grow.”
On the opposite side, Kiyovu Sports coach Haringingo Francis Christian expressed disappointment with the result but remained focused on improving the team’s competitiveness. He revealed plans to strengthen the squad during the upcoming transfer window.
“In the next mercato, we will sign players to add depth to the team. We still need more strength in several positions,” he stated. He also praised his goalkeeper’s performance, noting that it reflected the collective effort of the defensive unit: “A goalkeeper plays well because of a strong defense. It’s teamwork.”

The defeat adds to Kiyovu’s recent inconsistency. In their last five matches, they have drawn two, won one, and lost two, including a 1–1 draw against Bugesera in Matchday 7. Gasogi United, meanwhile, continue to build momentum with a far stronger record of three wins, one draw, and one loss in their previous five outings.
Gasogi’s win not only boosts their standing in the league but also reinforces their growing reputation as a disciplined and competitive side capable of handling pressure moments. For Kiyovu Sports, the result serves as a reminder of the improvements required if they are to regain stability and push higher up the table.
